Small business ignored: NOT enough has been done to support small business in Tuesday's federal budget says The Australian Newsagents' Federation (ANF). They say the budget has overlooked the majority of Australia's 1.88 million existing small businesses which require ongoing support to become successful participants in the economy. "This budget is primarily focused on assisting start-up enterprises, rather than implementing measures to encourage the future success of existing small business," ANF CEO Don MacAskill said. The ANF however are generally suppor tive of the Government's initiatives to reform the national tax system, encourage productivity and reduce fuel costs.

Don MacAskill is the CEO of Australian Newsagencies Federation, he says the Federation is disappointed the assistance offered by the Govt is merely catered towards start up enterprises through the Enterprise Connect Innovation Centres program.
He says what's really lacking in this budget is the Govt consistently talks about the need to increase productivity and the need for increased skilling of Australia, yet there has been little focus on training and mentoring for existing small businesses.
He says although this budget talks about greater focus on trying to reduce the costs of fuel, although the Foundation welcomes that it would be looking for some meaningful genuine assistance to offset fuel costs.
