About Newsagencies

The word newsagency is one of the strongest generic names in retailing. Everyone knows what a newsagency is and research shows that over 90% of people know what to expect to find in a newsagency: newspapers and magazines, greeting cards, stationery and lottery products. As big global companies swallow smaller retailers, family-run newsagencies are a haven of friendliness and service, with many newsagents delivering products to your door.
Newsagencies are the hub of local communities and are consumer-friendly accessible shops that provide a wide range of publications, greeting cards, stationery, lottery products and services. Newsagencies are generally owner-operated and offer services not often found in larger retailers. Some newsagents specialise in retail-only offering a wide a diverse variety of products. Others specialise in distribution-only and ensure your morning newspaper is delivered on time every day.
There are 6.9 million purchases of  magazines in Australia each year. More than 828,000 people buy a magazine at least once a month. More than 90% of Lottery sales and 45% of Australia's $500 million card sales are made in newsagencies. Newsagencies also form the largest network of retail outlets for Western Union money transfer. Transport ticketing, electronic transactions and phone top-ups have also found a home at the local newsagency.
