The Newsagency Industry

The newsagency industry in Australia is made up of some 5000 individually-owned family businesses which, together, represent the biggest retail and home-delivery network in the country. These businesses turn over some $6.5 billion per annum and provide employment for approximately 20,000 people. They home-deliver 3 million newspapers, distribute newspapers and magazines to 25,000 retail subagents and serve 2.5 million customers in their shops – daily!

Newsagents sell over 80% of magazines sold in Australia and are the consumers' destination point because of their range of titles, their product knowledge and their stock handling systems. In short, newsagents are the professionals.

The newsagency system in this country has served publishers and consumers very well and has played a very big part in making magazine sales in Australia the highest per capita in the world.
The newsagency industry has emerged recently from Australia's competition deregulation process with valuable, long-term contracts with Australia's largest publishers which will ensure that newsagents will continue to be the chief retailers and distributors of newspapers and magazines.

Newsagencies attract 83% of Australians every week!
