Elaine Munro from East Geelong Newsagency in Victoria has quite a high profile having won numerous awards over the years. Her exceptional customer service keeps bringing people back into her newsagency: as well as knowing almost every customer’s name, their dogs’ names and what newspaper they read, Elaine takes time to reward special customers on their birthdays or visits them when they are sick. Forming a local traders’ group, Elaine has been able to gain extra parking for the shopping precinct. She was also at the forefront of community lobbying to stop the opening of the shopping centre’s main intersection to heavy traffic. Her contributions to the newsagency community include attending every Geelong VANA meeting since becoming a newsagent in 1991. She stood for the VANA Board in 1997 and became the first woman to be elected to the Board in 118 years. She was Newspower Director from 1997-2000 and chaired the Standards/Training committees from 1996-2001. Elaine was a top 3 finalist for the Women’s Health Woman Newsagent of the Year for 2008. |
